Veils of the Fallen by Hannah Kristen is the first instalment in the History of the Fallen series, introducing a richly imagined fantasy world where prophecy, power, and identity collide. The story follows Esme, a woman who has always felt out of place, only to be abruptly torn from Earth and thrust into the mysterious Celestial Plane—a realm filled with ancient creatures, political tension, and looming danger. Stripped of her memories, powers, and sense of belonging, Esme must navigate a hostile world where humans are hunted and survival depends on uncovering hidden truths.
As Esme struggles to piece together her past, she becomes entangled in shifting alliances, betrayals, and a prophecy that may determine the fate of multiple worlds. Alongside the high-stakes tension, a slow-burning and risky romance begins to emerge, offering both hope and potential destruction. Blending epic fantasy with emotional depth, the novel explores themes of identity, resilience, and destiny—raising the question of whether Esme can uncover who she truly is before the fragile boundaries between worlds collapse entirely.

It's good morning, Hannah Christian. Welcome to Yellow Shelf. Thank you so much for having me. I didn't say your last name correctly, did I? No, that's correct. Hannah Christian. Yeah, yeah, awesome. Wonderful to have you on. Your book is out now. Congratulations, Veils of the Fallen.
SPEAKER_01Tell us all about it. Okay, so Veils of the Fallen follows Esme, who is a human who gets thrown into the celestial world, a world of starlight, magic, and danger. And because she's a human, she has no powers, no clue what's going on, and she has to try and fight to survive. And she's wrapped up in this prophecy about a sword that's gonna stop a celestial war. She doesn't know what's going on. And I always go, as dangerous as the world is, probably the riskiest thing she could do is fall in love, which she does. So it's a dark romantic and it's all about human resilience and strong women.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And I notice some people refer to this sort of crossover genre, if we're gonna call it that, um, as like romantic as well. Like, so yes, you're you're giving the audience so much, you give the reader gets so much out of this. Um, tell us about um, you know, the your writing and what you do, and you know, what inspired you to write?
SPEAKER_01Ah, so this has actually been a long dream that's been waiting to come to life. I actually finished the trilogy that this book is a part of. So it's called The History of the Fallen is the trilogy. And I finished writing that when I was 16. So book one, I actually finished and wrote when I was 14. So it's been waiting a whole 16 years to come to life, and now it has. And I'm so proud of myself for finishing it, but also where the stories become. I have since finishing the book, I actually became a therapist and I've worked in mental health for over 10 years. So it's really backed now by this idea of human strength and self-efficacy and the power of no matter what we face as people in general, we have the inner strength to be able to get through it. So that layer of resilience, I believe, needed to come with my professional practice and being backed by that. And I think even though it was a long wait, I think it was worth it because the book now I'm so proud of.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. And so you should be. I mean, that's one of the most powerful things in an author's journey is the reality around um their journey and their persistence. Um, you know, I think it's really interesting that uh your work as an author complements your your work world as well, uh links and their synergies. Um, and it's it's it's a wonderful way to kind of be able to express yourself, but also express the characters in the book. Hannah, um, tell us about the trilogy series. So um, or what's more like any more to come, like as an as an author now?
SPEAKER_01Um, well, I have finished uh reworking book two, so I need to go back and do the final edits. Book three, so I've had to, I always joked around that I said book one is pretty much in its original state. There's just a couple of fine tweaks. Book one, I probably had to change it about 80%, and then book three is a complete rewrite. So I am currently rewriting book three completely, and I even don't know where it's going to end. So it's it's really exciting.
SPEAKER_00It isn't, and it's it's gonna be a surprise. I think you know, you get to enjoy the journey with the release of this book this month, um, and you know, put yourself out there with all your hard work as an author. And I think, yeah, if anyone watching now anywhere around the world needs to embrace you as a new author and really needs to embrace the reality that, yeah, there's gonna be a trilogy series coming along. What um, Hannah, do you want to tell us a little bit about um where, if we're curious about you as an author, if we're curious to learn more about the trilogy series, your books, your work, point us in the direction of how we connect with you.
SPEAKER_01Of course. So anyone is welcome to jump on my website and you can learn a little bit more about me, uh, where to follow me on my social medias or even buy the book. And it's hannahkristen.com. Or you can go directly to my socials. I post behind the scenes, I share all about where I'm signing around Australia and all of the behind the scenes things you don't always see with an author. So I'm putting that all there. And you can follow me on it's underscore Hannah Christin.
SPEAKER_00Fabulous. But I always No, I was gonna say I'm gonna put the links in the show notes to make it easy for anyone to connect with you. To make stuff, yeah, just to follow you, to embrace your work, um, and yeah, support you going forward. Hannah, so lovely to meet you. I think it's so cool when we get a first-time author who's, you know, really done the hard yards, who's just been that persistent tenacity to get their book out there. Congratulations.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. And I always go, I believe truly that anyone, if they have a dream on their heart, the most important thing we can do is just chase it. And no matter how long it takes, no matter how young or old you are, it's possible.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, so true. Hannah, thanks for joining us. All the best. Thank you so much. Cheers.
