The podcast ADHD Money is hosted by Tina Mathams, focuses on helping neurodivergent adults, particularly people with ADHD, build healthier relationships with money and create financial wellbeing in ways that work with an ADHD brain.
Topics covered on the show include ...
Impulsive and emotional spending
Budgeting systems designed for ADHD rather than traditional finance advice
Money shame, avoidance, and financial anxiety
Debt and financial overwhelm
Money mindset and limiting beliefs
Practical tools for organisation, saving, and spending management
Understanding how ADHD traits affect financial decisions and habits
Tina often draws on both her professional background as an accountant and her lived experience with ADHD. Her approach is less about strict budgeting and willpower, and more about creating systems that account for dopamine-seeking behaviours, executive function challenges, nervous system regulation, and emotional triggers around money.

It is good good afternoon, Tina Mathams. Welcome to Yellow Shelf. Welcome back to Yellow Shelf, Tina. Yes, thank you for having me back. It's very exciting. Tina, you're on a year ago. Can you believe that? About your book. And at the time, I knew I wanted to get you back on about your podcast show. It's taken a year, but you are 20 at least 25 episodes into your podcast show. Congratulations. Yep. The podcast show is called ADHD Money. Tina, tell us all about it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I guess it's just another avenue for me to get information out to people, you know, um I guess especially with ADHD, but either one really like to consume information in different ways. Um, you know, some people like to read the book, some people like to do, you know, book and podcast, other people like to do social media. Um, and I love a microphone. So the more that I can talk about ADHD and money, I thought, why not? So yeah, I thought I'd start it up and yeah, see how it goes.
SPEAKER_00That's great. And they complement each other. I think having read the book last year uh and listened to many episodes, um, yeah, I guess the the episodes, you know, uh are relevant and timely around topics as well, similar to the book. Um, tell us 25 episodes. Tell us about any of those episodes, journeys, guests that you want to share with us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so um I guess I try to talk mainly about what I know people really want to listen to. Um, you know, there can be things that uh like I guess kind of new concepts that I'm trying to bring into ADHD and money, like a little bit more about self-concept and things like that. Um, but you know, heavily centered around budgeting, um, spending, um, that type of thing. So um, yeah, no guests on as yet. I do have um some guests wanting to come on, so that's really exciting. Um, but yeah, at the moment, just solo episodes. Um, but yeah, it's been going great.
SPEAKER_00Um, and tell us what what the one thing I wanted to, and I think I said it at the time when I spoke to you on about your book, you know, yes, it's a DHD titled, both the podcast and the book, but I mean, there's plenty of people who are undiagnosed. There are plenty of people who, you know, during menopause or during different, you know, generations and times in your life, um, you know, have these challenges around money. So the podcast is quite relevant as well as the book.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. Um, there's many, many people, you're exactly right, so many people who might suspect they have ADHD and, you know, pick up the book or listen to the podcast. Um, but you know, there's, I know that there's been people who maybe don't really think they have ADHD, but because it's so easy to digest and relevant information to them as well. Obviously, they might pick the bits where, you know, it's sort of a bit more relevant to ADHD. Um, but you know, anything that, anything money related that's easy to digest and easy to understand, um, can, you know, be relevant for anyone, really, ADHD or not.
SPEAKER_00And I remember at the time with the book, um, you know, this is good for employees, employers to understand, supporting employees. It's good for like um families and carers who who support those um either with an undiagnosed or diagnosed ADHD. I think there's lots of relevant content. What tell me about your journey as a podcast host. You you said you enjoy that. Um yeah, what's in what's in store episodes ahead? Um excuse me.
SPEAKER_01I I think sort of just I want to bring, I guess a little bit more, um, possibly things that I haven't really spoken about too much. Like maybe it's not really in the book, haven't really spoken about it on social media, but I also have noticed a bit of a trend with my social media content probably in the last sort of month or so, where the content around spending and how to manage our spending, how to do less impulsive spending has been really, really popular. So I think sort of, you know, coming in more episodes, um, I might talk a little bit more about spending as well and what we can do to manage our spending, um, you know, strategies, you know, how how ADHD impacts spending, talk a lot more about that as well. Um, I'm doing actually going to the ADHD Queensland conference uh tomorrow to do a talk on um the talks called from impulse to intention. Okay. All about sort of moving ourselves from that impulse of spending to more intention spending, um, which I'm really looking for, really looking forward to. So uh I think maybe even um something like that um in some future episodes will be good too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Tina, well, enjoy the conference. That sounds really interesting. Tina, if we're watching anywhere in the world and we want to get more curious about your show, your book, um, I'll put some links in the show notes. You mentioned Instagram, you have a huge following. You know, you deliver really supportive, inclusive content. Um, but point us in the direction, website, Instagram, where do you want us to go if we need to learn more about you and your book and your podcast show?
SPEAKER_01Look, the best place I always send people first is my Instagram, um, because it's got my um link, like bio link or whatever it's called in there where it gives you all the different links. Um, so that's the best place to go. Even if you don't have Instagram, you can still, you know, look it up on a um website and just click on the link. Um, and that will take you to the podcast. Um, it'll take you to any other links that you might want to go to. Um, I also do have a Instagram for the podcast. Um, so that'll take you, my bio will take you there as well. And I just try to post like little snippets and things like that. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'll put that in the show notes to make it easy for anyone to get curious and to support you. Tina, thank you for joining us. Let's stay in contact. I I love what you do for the ADHD community. I think it's incredibly supportive. Well done. Thank you so much. It was good to chat again. Cheers.
